Perfect Foods Bar was mentioned in the February issue of Delta Sky Magazine. Bob Harper, trainer from NBC’s The Biggest Loser names Perfect Foods Bar as his healthy snack of choice when flying.  Traveling at least twice a month, he makes sure to pack his own snacks on the plane and workout while on the road.

Perfect Foods Bar was featured on the TODAY Show as part of a satisfying snack segment by Lisa Lillien, host of “Hungry Girl” on the Food Network.  Lisa is an advocate for healthy eating and shared her favorite snack finds that not only taste great, but are also low in calories and fat grams.  Our Cranberry Crunch Lite bar made the list and we couldn’t be more thrilled!  She compares the flavor to a delicious, chewy PB&J.

Meet Sara Salo

Aug 22 2011

Say hello to Sara Salo, MPH, a cyclist and health advocate based out of Bend, Oregon. She will soon embark upon a 6,000-mile pedal-powered, Perfect Foods Bar fuled adventure to raise awareness about the importance of providing students with wholesome school meals. Sara’s outdoor-oriented upbringing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan initially led her to pursue competitive cross-country skiing as a career, first as an athlete and later as an elite-level junior coach. This work with young athletes opened her eyes to the need to educate school-aged kids about healthy eating and inspired her to enroll in graduate school in order to learn about Health Promotion. Sara earned her Master’s degree in Public Health from Oregon State University in 2011. The highlight of her studies was her work on school food reform with the Orfalea Foundations s’Cool Food Initiative in Santa Barbara, California.

Sara created The School Food Tour as a way to combine her interest in supporting the healthy development of kids with her passion for riding bikes. The Tour, a program of her own creation, is designed to engage both youth and communities in conversations about healthy living through classroom sessions, group bike rides and farm visits. She hopes to energize participants young and old to become active advocates for their personal, school and community wellbeing.

Sara is excited to partner with Perfect Foods Bars as a part of this ambitious undertaking. “I was worried that healthy food might not be available to me as I pedal through remote areas of our country. The Tour is going to demand an extraordinary amount of physical and mental exertion and so I’ve been searching for a product that would meet my caloric, nutrient and flavor requirements. I love everything about Perfect Foods Bars and carrying these bars will ensure that I have the energy and nutrients necessary to keep riding.”

The School Food Tour begins this month in Bend, Oregon and will conclude in Houghton, Michigan June of 2012. Sara will visit over 30 communities across the country and cover 15 states on her bicycling journey. To learn more about this initiative and follow Sara on her journey, please visit the School Food Tour website, http://schoolfoodtour.org.

Around here, we are up to our elbows in peanut butter and honey…. so we truly appreciate it when we meet Perfect Foods Bar fans who are just as passionate about our bars. We decided to feature some of our top fans, and the first ones featured are the most dedicated fans we have met so far.

Let us introduce you to Michael and Kimberly Miller. Over the last year alone the couple has competed in a combined 42 endurance races including 24 ultra-marathons and 18 marathons. Not bad, right?

“We love doing events, it’s not only the completion of the race, but we get to run and experience so many new and old favorite cities across the country. But the best part is we get to hang with a great community of everyday athletes with a shared passion. The friendships we have gained are something special, and we will have these people in our lives forever.”

The Millers are not only impressive everyday athletes, they are also very passionate about nutrition. “We had always been very conscious of what we eat. But when you are now at an age where you are visiting multiple grandkids and still out running an ultramarathon one week and a marathon the next, you really have to fuel properly. Our friends and family think we are a little over the top particular with what we eat, but we look at food as fuel and nutrition, but we are also ‘foodies.’ Our diet is strictly whole grains, lots of vegetables, some fruits, lean proteins and health fats.  The key is making those whole foods into awesome tasting meals and snacks. We simply do not, and will not, compromise when it comes to healthy eating that tastes great. This is really how the Perfect Foods Bar came into our lives.”

“We searched long and hard for what we would call a healthy sports nutrition bar before we discovered the Perfect Foods Bar. When we first read the all-natural ingredients we looked at each other and said “I don’t care what it tastes like, this is by far the best mix of ingredients for performance”: great soy-free proteins (Kimberly being a 3-time cancer survivor needs to avoid soy based proteins), an amazing list of fruit and vegetables, extremely health fats. “But when we tasted them… it was WOW. I have a new addiction, how can the best ingredient bars also be the best tasting bar? Hmm… maybe that’s not such a coincidence after all….”

Thanks again Michael and Kimberly . . . see you on the course!

Our founder and President, Bill Keith had the awesome opportunity to be interviewed by the awesome Andrew Warner for Mixergy.

If you haven't heard of the two, Andrew, an entrepreneur himself started Mixergy to learn from (and help others learn from) the experiences of other entrepreneurs through interviews. Originally interviews were held in person with a group of spectators. After refocusing the project, Andrew moved everything online. Today, "Mixergy is a place where successful people teach ambitious upstarts", where business people and non-business people alike will no doubt find an inspiring story or two.

We were so excited when Andrew invited Bill for an interview, giving him a change to share the Perfect Foods Bar story with a huge group of smart, motivated, and just plain cool people. Check out the original Mixergy post here, or watch the video below.
Thank you so much for sharing our story, Andrew!
